Transforming Lives Through Furniture – Providing Dignity, Comfort, and Hope to Central Indiana Families in Need.

The Mustard Seed of Central Indiana Inc stands as a beacon of compassion, offering free, high-quality furniture to individuals and families struggling with poverty, homelessness, or crisis. Unlike other charities, we prioritize immediate relief, personalized service, and long-term support, ensuring every recipient receives not just furniture, but a renewed sense of stability.

We Are Number One

For over a decade, The Mustard Seed of Central Indiana Inc has stood as the undisputed leader in furniture assistance programs across the region. Our unmatched track record of serving more than 75,000 individuals, distributing essential furnishings to families in crisis, and maintaining a 98% client satisfaction rate sets us apart as the premier nonprofit in this space. No other organization in Central Indiana can match our scale, efficiency, or depth of community impact when it comes to turning empty houses into dignified homes.

What truly makes us number one is our holistic approach to service. While others simply hand out furniture, we provide comprehensive support - from personalized needs assessments to delivery coordination and follow-up care. Our proprietary intake system, developed through years of experience, allows us to serve three times as many families as similar organizations while maintaining rigorous quality standards. The countless awards from civic organizations and continuous recognition from local government agencies testify to our unparalleled position in the sector.

Services

(1)

Furniture Distribution

We provide gently used furniture free of charge to qualified individuals and families, including beds, sofas, tables, and chairs. Each item is inspected, sanitized, and matched to the recipient’s specific needs. Our process prioritizes households in immediate crisis, such as those escaping domestic violence or transitioning from homelessness. Delivery options are available for seniors and disabled clients, ensuring accessibility for all.

(2)

Community Partnerships

We collaborate with shelters, schools, and social service agencies to identify those most in need. Through these partnerships, we offer bulk furniture donations to shelters, furnish entire apartments for refugees, and support disaster relief efforts. Our team conducts regular needs assessments to align our inventory with community gaps, maximizing the impact of every donation.

(3)

Donation Pickup & Recycling

Donors can schedule free pickup for large furniture items, which we refurbish or responsibly recycle if beyond repair. This service not only supports our mission but also reduces landfill waste. We accept mattresses, appliances, and household goods, providing donors with tax receipts and the satisfaction of knowing their items will directly benefit a neighbor in need.

Our History

The Mustard Seed was born in 2011 from a simple yet powerful idea: no one should sleep on the floor in a country of abundance. Founded by a group of local volunteers, we began by collecting discarded furniture, repairing it, and quietly delivering it to families in crisis. Word spread quickly, and what started as a grassroots effort soon became a vital community resource, thanks to the generosity of Indiana residents.

By 2015, we had established our first warehouse, allowing us to store and distribute larger quantities of furniture while maintaining rigorous quality standards. Milestones like our partnership with homeless shelters and our 10,000th furniture delivery in 2020 solidified our role as a regional leader in poverty alleviation. Each year, we’ve expanded our services, adding programs like seasonal bedding drives and emergency furnishings for fire victims.

Today, our history is written in the stories of those we’ve served—the single mother who finally got a crib for her newborn, the veteran who slept in a proper bed for the first time in years, the foster child with a desk to do homework. These narratives fuel our determination to grow, innovate, and keep our mission alive for decades to come.

We'll be sure to get back to you!
